Finding the Perfect Fragrance for Every Season

When most people go fragrance shopping, they simply smell and purchase whichever fragrances they like and apply it no matter the occasion. However, if you're into the collecting game, you might like to know what your fragrances are designed for. It can be a bit tough to categorize them based on season; however, in this article, I would like to give you some tips and tricks based on how I usually do this. Hopefully, this will help you be more organized when you’re purchasing fragrances for your collection from the men’s perfume store.

Summer Fragrances

First of all, let's start off with the summer season. When you think of summer, you usually associate the season with sunshine, the ocean, and refreshing citrus drinks like lemonade, tropical cocktails with fruits. The fragrances designed for the summer season are usually very light and refreshing. However, you don't want fragrances that are too sweet in this season because the heat makes fragrances even sweeter in the summertime.

The first tip to know if a fragrance is designed for the summer is to look at the bottle presentation. If you look at 4711 Acqua Colonia Lime & Nutmeg women's Eau de Cologne Spray, which season do you think they've designed this for? The color of the bottle is a light green, and even the main notes, nutmeg and lime, scream summer. It’s a super fresh, citrusy, yet spicy fragrance suitable for both men and women, and a great option to consider when fragrance shopping.

Another example might be the Bora Bora Cologne Spray. Even the name sounds like a tropical vacation, and if you look at the notes, it includes lime and kiwi. Other tropical notes like coconut or mango are also going to be associated with summer fragrances, like in Fusion d’Issey Eau de Toilette Spray. This perfume has notes of lemon, coconut milk, and rosemary, and the blue bottle design is reminiscent of the ocean.

Basically, you want summer fragrances to be all about freshness, expansion, and airiness. Make sure these fragrances are not too warm or sweet; they should be light and refreshing.

Autumn Fragrances

Next, we have the autumn season, which is trickier to associate fragrances with. So, what do we associate with autumn in general? I think of going to a nice cafe to read a book, drinking your coffee, and going out into the autumn woods. I think of woody scents around you, such as when autumn leaves are falling or when you snuggle up close to your loved ones.

This, in my opinion, is the season that fragrances will become more about warmth but not necessarily pure sweetness. Think warm notes like tonka bean or some amber notes. This season is going to need fragrances that are more balanced to suit the environment. For example, Armani Code Absolu Eau de Parfum Spray has autumn-like notes of carrot seeds, tonka beans, and suede, making it a great gift for the woman in your life. For men, the Montblanc Legend Red Eau de Parfum Spray has woody notes such as mahogany, Atlas cedar, and tonka bean, making it a warm but not sweet fragrance for autumn. It has the warmth from the tonka bean, with some more fresh citrus like grapefruit, blood orange, and juniper berries.

Another example is Nicole Miller Eau de Toilette Spray for men. It consists of sharp apple and vanilla notes that are going to smell clean and refreshing. It’s a fresh fragrance overall, and its honey note gives it extra warmth, making it the perfect fragrance for the autumn. It's not going to be an intense vanilla fragrance because it still has masculine notes of oakmoss and leather. This is all about warmth but freshness overall.

Winter Fragrances

The wintertime, in my opinion, is when fragrances go all out and go extremely intense. You're thinking of the chilling cold, snow, being indoors a lot with a warm fireplace around you. Overall, the optimal winter fragrances are not fresh. They're all about sweetness now. So the fragrances that are very vanilla dominant are going to be optimally a winter fragrance.

I would say that the Emporio Armani Stronger with You Absolutely men Eau de Parfum Spray is a winter fragrance. With strong vanilla and rich rum notes, it basically screams winter. As well, in the wintertime, aside from having sweetness being your main component here, you also want to have a fragrance that can break through and pierce through the cold. This Emporio Armani fragrance has the performance to do it, in my opinion, which makes this a perfect wintertime fragrance.

Another example of a winter fragrance would be the Clive Christian X fragrance, which is incredibly masculine. The closing notes have woody vibes like amber, Virginia cedar, and oakmoss, but it also closes with vanilla and French labdanum. It’s dense, thick, and strong enough to be noticed in the cold weather.

Spring Fragrances

The last season is spring, and its one that gives you a nice, nice, cool, uplifting and enlivening feeling after the horrible cold winter. In April, you start to get all the bouquets of flowers. You might also be in the woods and be next to the sprouting green grass. Everyone is happy, and everyone is lively. Life is good in this season.

So, in my opinion, we're going to go away from the sweetness of wintertime with these fragrances. We're going to go back to fresh and balanced, similar to autumn time, but with a different twist. Instead of the autumn fragrances that are fresh but focus on warmth, in my opinion, the perfect spring fragrance is the fresh fragrances that focus on the notes that are florals, green notes, and woods.

So, wear something like Terre d’Hermès in spring. Tell me it's not the perfect fragrance for the season. This is green because it's very woody and it's got bright, uplifting citruses as well, making this overall a fresh fragrance that has those notes that is going to be associated with springtime. This is very clean, professional, and lively, just like the season. So, I think it fits it perfectly.
